About the Studio

Heartbeat of the East studio was founded in December of 2003 to provide a home for American Tribal Style and Tribal Fusion Style dancers in Buffalo, NY. Heartbeat has an open door policy for all dancers, recognizing the need for variety in dance training and teachers and encourages its students to study as many different teachers as possible.

With that in mind, Heartbeat of the East has been consistently striving to host workshops and events that provide opportunities to work with some of the most influential Tribal teachers and performers available today. It is in this spirit that Northern Migration was born, the first Tribal and Alternative Dance festival in the Northeast.

Heartbeat of the East has proudly been the home of several different dance troupes since it's opening, starting with Hip Chik Raks, a World Fusion Dance Troupe that has performed throughout New York and New Jersey as well as into Canada. Since then, Una Hajra- Heartbeat's Tribal Fusion troupe has debuted and entertained crowds at several events in central and western New York and Pennsylvania. The studio is also home to Heartbeat Tribal- an American Tribal Style dance troupe, and Pulse and Euphraxia, which are Urban Tribal Style troupes.

About our Founder

Kadri began dancing at a very young age with a concentration on American styles, such as Tap, Jazz and Ballet. She performed in and choreographed for different dance troupes during college. After college, Kadri took some time off of classical training and started to develop her own style of dance, which included movements from her previous training combined with newer club moves from the Hip Hop and Goth dance scenes.

Kadri came into Middle Eastern dance in 1999 while studying Raks Sharki with a local dance studio. During her training she also studied Turkish, Lebanese, Saidi and Faux Pharonic styles, but the style that she connected most with was American Tribal Style. Since then, Kadri has specialized in learning American Tribal Style and the Tribal Fusion styles that have branched off of it. Kadri continues to incorporate her own personal style with her technical training in the Tribal styles and has been able to create and teach a Tribal Fusion style all her own.
